
UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
Short stays (up to 6 months) for tourism, business, family visits, or short-term studies.
1. How to apply for an ETA
- Where to apply: Official UK Government website or "UK ETA" app (Google Play & App Store).
- Requirements: Valid passport, email, debit/credit card, recent photo.
- Cost: £10 (~€12); rising to £16 soon.
- Validity: 2 years or until passport expiry.
- Processing: Minutes to 3 working days—apply ≥3 days before departure.
2. Valid Passport
Your passport must be valid and in good condition; the ETA is digitally linked to it.
3. Restrictions on Animal Products
Bringing animal-derived food (meat, cheese, sausages, milk) is prohibited—even duty-free or packaged—must be declared or face fines up to £5,000 (~€6,000).
4. ETA Exemptions
- UK residents with settled/pre-settled status, ILR, or valid visa.
- Holders of any approved UK visa.
- British or Irish citizens.
- Airside transit without border control clearance.
